Meeting Surging Demand by Scaling Engineering Teams Rapidly

For CTO Russ Greenspan, the pandemic brought an unprecedented increase in demand for PresenceLearning’s services as K-12 schools nationwide transitioned to online learning. Expanding the engineering team became a top priority to keep up with this demand. Although PresenceLearning had previously adopted a distributed staffing model, the need for a rapid scale-up posed new challenges.


Russ’s team required engineers who brought creative, diverse perspectives to the table and who shared the company’s mission-driven values. Additionally, it was crucial that new hires worked within the same time zone to maintain productivity and cohesion.

Partnering with Terminal to Build a Talented, Diverse Engineering Team

In early 2020, PresenceLearning began working with Terminal to build a remote tech team distributed across the U.S. and Latin America. “When you look at places like Mexico or Colombia, one of the best things is that everyone is on the same clock as the U.S.,” Russ explained. “It’s a huge plus.”

Achieving Growth with Five New Engineers in 3 MONTHS

By partnering with Terminal, PresenceLearning augmented its engineering team by 10 new hires in just a few months, meeting its scaling targets to handle the increased demand for online services. Within one 3 MONTH period, five engineers joined the team, including senior software engineers, full-stack developers, and frontend engineers.
